Chapter 1- It Begins
The amber rays of the setting sun shone brightly through the patterned stain glass windows of the old church. The blood curdling screams still echoed amongst the pews. A creature crawled over the mangled body of the priest with a mixture of saliva and blood dangling from his mouth like shoe laces as he sank his claws into the priest’s chest. This creature was neither alive nor dead, neither human nor vampire. This creature was something else, a hybrid so it were but what ever he was, his sins formed a black mist around him, causing chaos and death to everyone and everything who came too close.

An alarm clock sounded at dawn and a hand appeared out from underneath navy bed covers.
“Oh god, morning already?” groaned a male voice from under the covers. They began to rustle and out came a boy of about nineteen years of age. His hair stuck out in all directions as though he had been electrocuted, his eyes practically glued together with tiredness. He rubbed his hands over his face and got out of his bed and walked into the bathroom. After a long shower he reappeared and glanced at his clock,
“Oh shit!” he cursed to himself and he threw on the clothes he wore the day before and ran out of his room and dived out the front door, carelessly forgetting to lock it. He soon pulled up in a car park outside a school and ran inside with his books clutched to his chest.

“Mr Booker, you’re late” shouted his professor as soon as he walked in the door
“Sorry professor Winters” he replied as he took his seat in the middle row
“Yes well, next time you’re late Aiden you will be removed from this course. Understood?” Professor Winters yelled
“Yes Professor, well understood, it wont happen again” the boy replied, the professor glared at him and continued writing on the black board. Aiden is amongst a variety of different students here, some he hated, some he liked and one he loved. He was a tall boy, around 6ft 1, he had black hair which fell to just above his shoulders and gracefully glided across his face and right eye. His eyes were truly unique to the others in his class, everyone else had the usual brown or blue or green. He on the other hand, had a misty green colour outlined with a pinstripe of emerald green without pupils. The Professor waffled on about chemistry and it was soon time for Aiden to make the biggest move of his social life.
     The bell rang for break and all of the other students herded out of the room like a flock of sheep, but Aiden and his friend Cooper took their time in leaving.
“So are ya gonna do it then?” Cooper asked impatiently and putting his arm around Aiden’s shoulders and punching him in his left arm as they walked down the corridor and out onto the field.
“Yes I am, well I’m going to try” Aiden replied nervously rubbing his arm
“Right well there she is, sitting with her mates,” Cooper pointed to a group of girls sitting on the field in the sun. He pointed to a blonde fair haired girl sitting laughing with her friends. Her hair gently drifted in the summer breeze. Cooper pushed Aiden closer, “Go on then, she’s ripe for the plucking!” Aiden took a deep breath and walked over to the girls very nervously.
“Erm, Rogue?” Aiden asked in a shy tone, “Can I have a word with you please? It won’t take long.”
“Yeah of course you can Aiden” Rogue smiled and stood up and they walked a little way from her friends
“I’ll get straight to the point here okay,” Aiden took a deep breath and began to speak, “I’ve liked you for ages okay, I’m sorry about the bluntness but I couldn’t think of any other way to say it. I was only wondering that if you liked me back then we could go out sometime?”
“Aw Aiden, that’s really sweet and I thank you for telling me but I don’t like you in that way. I’m really sorry Aiden; I hope this won’t spoil our friendship?” Rogue said in a sympathetic voice
“No it wont, I’m just glad that I asked you and got rejected face to face” Aiden put on a fake smile and left her alone. He walked straight past Cooper who was chatting up some other girls.
     “Hey Booker!” shouted a male voice from across the field. Aiden stopped and looked in the direction the voice came from. There was a boy from his class jogging up to him, as soon as he came close enough he punched Aiden in the mouth causing him to fall back but stay on his feet.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing? Chatting up Rogue! You obviously didn’t know that she’s going out with me did you!” shouted the boy. Aiden spat blood onto the grass and dropped his bag and books to the floor.
“No I didn’t know that she was going out with you. I can’t see why she would anyway, crater face!” Aiden sniggered.
“Oh you’re gonna regret that one” the boy hissed
“Bring it on” Aiden gestured. The boy ran at Aiden and tried another punch, but Aiden blocked it. The boy (named Tyler) ran at Aiden again and began to punch at his stomach; this caused Aiden to fall to the floor coughing. Tyler backed away from him and waited until he stood up.
“Tyler,” Aiden coughed, keeping his head down, “I hope you get frost bite”
“What the hell?” Tyler laughed. As he laughed Aiden slammed his fist onto the grass and caused a smashed glass effect to burst up around his fist and then ice quickly spread across the ground freezing Tyler’s feet to the floor. Aiden stood up not lifting his head as Tyler struggled to break free. Aiden positioned his arms in front of him with his palms facing the summer sky; his fingers began to curl in towards his palms as his powers seemed to be collecting. He exhaled heavily and ice balls appeared floating above his palms, he lifted his head slowly and his eyes were ice blue and completely emotionless. He sniggered slightly and he fired the balls off Tyler who stood there in shock. Aiden threw the ice balls as soon as he made them, hitting Tyler all over his measly body. Aiden finally stopped and brought his hands down by his sides and watched as Tyler fell to the floor, covered in bruises and deep wounds. Aiden blew along the ice on the floor and it melted instantly, he picked up his books and went to his car, everyone stood there watching in shock as he walked away. Aiden unlocked his car, took one last look at his class mates gathered around Tyler and drove off back home.

Dusk was settling as Aiden pulled up in his drive and began to walk up the path towards the door when he noticed a black mist around the front door; through the mist he saw that his door was wide open. He ran up to the house and through the mist and into the house which was completely messed up. Everything from his shelves and bookcase were smashed upon the wooden floor, his television was smashed and everything was thrown everywhere.
“Who’s in here?” he yelled, there was no answer, “Who is in my house?” There was a sudden thud which came from upstairs. Aiden felt his stomach drop and he walked slowly to the bottom of the stairs and there, on the landing was a creature. It bared its teeth at the sight of him and growled like a dog but looked nothing like one. It looked like a man on his hands and the balls of his feet; he was poised at the top of the stairs preparing himself to jump down. He had no hair and no clothes except for a ragged pair of knee length pants, his skin was a sickly yellow colour and blue and purple veins could be seen all over his body. His eyes were pure black and he had only deep black cavities for a nose and his chin and mouth were stained with blood. He opened his mouth slowly showing his teeth more and hissing steadily like a threatening snake.
“Holy shit” Aiden whispered in shock. The creature growled and snarled at him, he then leapt from the top step and landed upon Aiden. They both crashed to the floor and the creature pinned Aiden down and screamed a high pitched scream right in his face, spitting blood and small bits of flesh on his face. A sudden gun shot powered the creature off Aiden and made him slide along the wood. A girl walked over to Aiden and helped him up while holding some sort of medallion out in front of her at arms length towards the creature. The creature stood up, he glared at the medallion and screeched once more then dived through the window and he was away.
“What the hell was that?!” Aiden shouted as he stood up wiping his face
“That, was your most powerful enemy” the girl said watching him gallop down the street
“Why is he my enemy? How does he know me? What was it?!” Aiden kept shouting
“Look!” the girl shouted as she spun round and threw him and pinned him against a wall, “You are in grave danger! Your questions will not be answered if you continuously insist on screaming them at me! Now you must come with me, if you don’t then I will not be here to save you next time. If you want to be protected then you stay within my sights and within my company. You will never be able to get free of this curse and you will never be able to destroy that creature without help and without training. Do you understand?!” Aiden looked at her confused
“No, I will not come with you. Wait a minute…did you say curse?” Aiden asked pushing her hands off his arms
“Yes I did. You are cursed Aiden Booker, and if you do not strengthen your powers, you will never to be able to help yourself” the girl said seriously, “Aiden you’re unique. You must be protected and learn your true powers and learn how to use them to their full capacity and to your advantages. I can help you, but only if you let me.” Aiden stayed silent and looked at her taking all of this in.
“So you just expect me to leave my life here and go with you to fight that thing?” he asked
“Aiden you have no life here anymore. You have exposed your powers in your school; you can never go back there. If you come with me then you won’t ever have this problem, you are not the only one with powers in this city. My people and I can help you, train you, and protect you. Please come with me Aiden, please” the girl begged. Aiden sighed
“Okay, but I only have one question. Who are you?”
“My name is Clarice; I am head of the vampire clan of Dawncastle” she answered
“Vampire? You’re a vampire?” Aiden asked in disbelief
“Yes I am” Clarice nodded; Aiden looked at her strangely and crashed to the floor in faint.
“Oh my god, I didn’t think that you would be as delicate as a bloody daisy” Clarice said to herself. She sighed and hauled Aiden onto her back and carried him to her covern.
